The internet would have you believe that, since it's spring, you urgently need to buy an entirely new wardrobe. Vests, pants, little pastel tank tops—the works. But what if I told you that you already have everything you need? You just aren’t wearing it right.
I was looking at various models in the season’s latest trends, and they all had one thing in common: slouching.
None of these pieces are revolutionary. I have crewneck sweatshirts, t-shirts, and baggy pants. I could tie a sweater around my neck! All of it’s already in my closet. I just haven’t been slouching in it. So I decided to try it out:
Here I am, slouching in my old Gap pants and a men’s jean jacket. The hunch gives it that look I was going for—it’s so old, it’s new again.
Next, I put on a sweater from a few years ago and white poplin pants, which made my tailor ask me if I was a nurse because she thought they were scrubs. (I’ve cursed them ever since because I paid too much for them to be scrub price.) But now, in this pose, I might actually be into them again.
Then I draped a sweater over my shoulders to emphasize the shrugged vibe. I’m so on trend, you'd think I bought these clothes yesterday.
Finally, here I am leaning in sunglasses—and let me say, I look cool. I feel young. Summer is coming. (Yes, that is my four-year-old behind me asking what I am doing. This is how I’m getting a Pulitzer, honey.)
So there you have it. The internet is telling you lies, just thrust those clavicles forward and put on your old t-shirts. You have everything you need.
You just saved me so much money
Slouching for spring. Groundbreaking.
