Love this ! Especially the prayer over the rug (your piece about your husband reminded me of a favorite Laurie Colwin book called Shine On, Bright and Dangerous Object)
Thank you for teaching me about this prayer! I lead a group at my (Episcopal) church and tonight we had a kickoff meeting for our new season of work; more than half the group are new members, as well. A prayer of gratitude for the first time doing a thing is so timely. (Side note: carpet cleaning is also timely, our fellowship space carpets are scheduled for a deep-clean on Monday because Wine Away is not even close to powerful enough for their current state.)
I can relate....My husband and I just moved to a new home in a new state...We keep getting lost...we are headed to the bathroom and end up in the laundry room...and the house is not that big! The sounds, or lack of, are different. I miss the familiarity, the people that I saw every day...at the supermarket, the coffee shop, etc. It will take a while to adjust, to acclimate, and not get lost on a daily basis. We do not worry about the spilling of coffee on our new carpet, but one day, G-d willing, we will have grandchildren to do that. Mazel tov!
mazal tov on your new home! you spelled Shehecheyanu perfectly:)

Kids spilling things on the rug is the first step to making a house a home
